Quick answer. A drop of white lithium or 3-in-1 on each hinge pin. Work the door. Wipe the drip.

The hinge pin is dry metal on metal. Oil the pin, not the paint.

MarketPalace Guide Center writes this as a solution walkthrough — the order we would use if we were in the room with you. We name the next click, then what to do if that click fails. We do not sell the TV, the kettle, or the plane ticket.

If a menu name on your set or phone does not match, use the closest wording and email hello@marketpalace.shop. We correct live pages when the path has moved.

What you need

  • Light oil or white lithium grease
  • Rag

1. Open the door and put a drop on the top of each hinge

Hit the pin, not the wood.

2. Swing the door 20 times

Let the oil walk down.

3. If it still screams, tap the pin up slightly and oil the shaft

A scrap of cardboard under the door helps if you pull a pin.

4. Wipe excess so it does not stain the floor

If it still fails

  • Cooking spray is a short-term mess. Use real light oil.

When you are done, browse more in Home & Fixes or search the Guide Center for the next job on your list. A neighbour problem — a remote, a bill, a suitcase — has its own walkthrough.

Common questions

Interior vs exterior?

Exterior hinges like a slightly heavier grease so rain does not wash it off.
