Quick answer. Wash, dry on heat, wipe a thin oil film, bake upside down. Thin layers beat one greasy coat.

Sticky pans were oiled too thick. Seasoning is polymerized oil, not a puddle.

MarketPalace Guide Center writes this as a solution walkthrough — the order we would use if we were in the room with you. We name the next click, then what to do if that click fails. We do not sell the TV, the kettle, or the plane ticket.

If a menu name on your set or phone does not match, use the closest wording and email hello@marketpalace.shop. We correct live pages when the path has moved.

What you need

  • Neutral oil
  • Oven

1. Wash once with a little soap if it is new or rusty

Dry on the hob until all steam stops.

2. Wipe on a drop of oil, then wipe almost all of it off

It should look barely shiny.

3. Bake upside down at about 230°C / 450°F for 45 minutes

Foil on the lower rack catches drips.

4. Cool in the oven

Repeat once if you want a darker coat.

If it still fails

  • Olive oil smoke point is low. Use grapeseed, canola, or flax if you like.

When you are done, browse more in Kitchen & Cooking or search the Guide Center for the next job on your list. A neighbour problem — a remote, a bill, a suitcase — has its own walkthrough.

Common questions

Rusted?

Scrub rust off, dry, season again. The iron is still fine.
